A TALENTED teenage saxophonist will play to an audience of millions after being selected to perform at the BBC Proms.

Alexander Bone of High Coniscliffe, near Darlington, is just 18-years-old but already has a musical CV that many experienced performers would envy.

He was crowned the BBC’s Young Jazz Musician of the Year in 2014, completed a prestigious music course in America with some of the world’s most talented young musicians and has worked with the likes of Nile Rodgers, Rudimental and Newton Faulkner.

Now he is adding another impressive achievement to his list after being selected to perform with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at the Proms in the Park in Swansea on September 12.

In previous years the Proms have reached audiences of 15million across a range of BBC platforms and Alexander said being asked to take part is a “huge honour”.

“The Proms are such a huge event for British music every year, to be picked to perform on them is a lifetime goal, something you dream about, so to actually receive that call is pretty magical.”

He will perform with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales as well as West End and opera stars, and the show can be viewed using the BBC’s red button service, iplayer and live on BBC Radio Wales.

Alexander, who graduated this year from the Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, has moved to London this week in preparation of starting a four-year jazz music degree at the Royal Academy of Music.

However, he returns to the region on September 25 to perform at Stokesley Town Hall and tickets cost £15 available from 01642 710270.
