A NORTH-EAST police force has warned against lottery scammers.

Darlington Police took to social media to raise awareness of fraudsters attempting to trick people into believing they've won the lottery.

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau say emails and letters are circulating using the 2016 Rio Olympics as a theme.

One scam promises an online lottery prize of £650,000 and a trip to Brazil to watch the Olympics while the other gives winning numbers and says the recipient has won £820,000 and a trip to Brazil to watch the Rio Carnival.

Those targeted are told to contact a Mr Dima Robert from London or a 'UK Pay Out Officer'.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of fraud can report it online at actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud or by calling 0300 123 2040.
