FIRE crews were called to a blaze in the roof void of a house in Milton Street, Darlington, this morning.
Three fire appliances, two senior officers and the aerial ladder platform attended the scene.
All occupants were accounted for, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said.
A nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, said he was awoken by the smoke at around 5.30am.
“My bedroom window was open and the smell of the smoke came through it,” he said.
“Fire crews turned up at around 5.30am and the fire was out by around 6.15am.
“The fire brigade were there until about 9.45am. There were at least four police cars here as well.”
Fire crews are today fitting free fire alarms in properties in the Eastbourne area of Darlington.
