A JOCKEY was airlifted to hospital after being thrown from his mount whilst riding in countryside at Denton, near Darlington.

The 50-year-old’s injuries were compounded when the horse then fell back on him and he needed urgent treatment at the scene by medics from the Great North Air Ambulance Service and the North East Ambulance Service.

He was then airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with suspected pelvic injuries.

The journey to the hospital took just ten minutes and the man’s condition is described as stable.

The incident took place at 11am this morning (Thursday, August 20).
