THOUSANDS of music lovers descended on Darlington for a festival aimed at celebrating the tenth anniversary of a popular neighbourhood.

Music on West Park Hill, on Sunday, featured five bands and two acoustic singers, with crowds often having to dodge downpours on a day of changeable weather.

On the main stage were The Equalisers, The Neutronz, Iceni, Monster Ceilidh Band and The Jar Family, while Hayley McKay and Dave Brittle performed on the acoustic stage.

Allison McKay, from the Forum Music Centre, which helped organise the event, said: "It was a great family day out, the feedback was very positive.

"A lot of people asked if it was possible to make it a regular thing and it would be great if we could find some way to support it again next year."

Emma Waring, business development manager for Darlington Borough Council, said: “It was an amazing event and had a great, friendly atmosphere.

"Everyone was well-behaved and enjoyed the day. Lots of people brought gazebos, picnic rugs and chairs and sat and enjoyed the music with their friends and family.

“The weather was dry to start but then it started to drizzle about 3.30pm but it was only when the heavens opened a little later that a few people, especially those with small children, headed home.

"But the hard-core festival fans stayed on to enjoy the rest of the night and it cleared up again for the last few sets.

“The musicians and acoustic singers were fantastic. It was well organised and a lot of people said they’d like to see it come back next year.”
