AN INTERNATIONAL women’s group elected a new official in Darlington recently.
Jackie Heaton has been welcomed as the president of the Darlington Inner Wheel Club.
The organisation, affiliated with the Rotary movement, operates internationally as one of the largest women’s voluntary service groups in the world.
Mrs Heaton was welcomed by Darlington’s Rotary Club at their most recent meeting, where she pledged to work closely with the group.
Her election marks the second year in succession where the presidents of the Inner Wheel and the Rotary Club have been man and wife.
Mrs Heaton is married to President David Heaton, who presided over the meeting.
The event also saw Rotarian Ian Lyle discuss his role as chartered town planner and planning consultant.
The director of consultancy firm England and Lyle gave a presentation of recent projects, including a look at housing schemes in Darlington.
Members were also encouraged to support the upcoming Darlington 10km race.
A spokesman said this year marked the 24th year of working with Darlington Borough Council to promote the event, which has raised more than £75,000 for local causes.
