FAIR play was the order of the day as a women's football tournament was completed without a single red or yellow card being dished out.

Fourteen teams from across the North-East competed in the seven-a-side tournament, at Eastbourne Sports Complex, in Darlington, on Saturday (July 25).

Each team played a minimum of six games before the knockout stages, with a total of 50 tightly contested matches taking place between 10am and 3pm.

Consett Ladies took on Auckland Ladies in a gripping final match, which led to extra time.

Auckland managed a last-minute goal, with Gemma Marshall firing home the winning shot right before the final whistle.

The tournament, now in its second year, was described as hugely successful.

Decent crowds enjoyed the dry, sunny conditions, while showing the players their support.

Staff at the Eastbourne Sports Complex are hoping to repeat the tournament next year.
