DOG and cat owners are being advised to regularly worm their pets by Darlington Dog Warden, Andy Wood.
He's supporting the work of Grange Vets in the town who are raising awareness this month by holding free lifestyle assessments of both cats and dogs.
"Worms can seriously harm pets," said Head Nurse Debbie Grimes. "Some worms can pass from pets to people through stroking, grooming and also directly from the environment."
