YOUNGSTERS still have time to sign up for a junior version of the adult 10K race taking place in Darlington next month.
The junior 3K race is being re-introduced for the first time in 15 years. It now has an expanded age range of eight to 14 years, rather than the previous 14 to 16 year old structure.
Junior runners will receive the same experience as the 10K runners, starting on the official start line and finishing on High Row.
The race, on August 9, is chipped so young runners can view their official time and even have it sent to them by text.
There will be prizes for the top three male and female winners in their age categories and souvenir t-shirts for all the entrants.
Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure, environment and transport, said the 3K run gave youngsters the experience of taking part in a real race without the pressure of the longer distance.
The entry fee is £5, to enter visit healthydarlington.co.uk/10k
The closing date for entries is July 31.
