A ROAD was closed in Darlington after a vehicle became stuck under a bridge.

Police say a skip lorry became wedged under a bridge in Cleveland Street after the driver misjudged the height of the vehicle.

In a similar incident in 2013 a lorry struck the bridge - pictured above - causing delays to trains running on the East Coast Main Line.

The lorry involved in Wednesday's collision has now been removed and the bridge is not thought to have suffered any damage.

Cleveland Street was closed in both directions, although the closure was expected to be lifted at around 9am.

Traffic in the Albert Hill and North Road areas was affected by the closure.
