AN iconic steam engine in an iconic setting made a memorable sight for train enthusiasts in the North-East.
The Darlington-built £3m A1 Peppercorn class locomotive Tornado crossed the River Tyne on route to York today (Monday, July 6).
Fresh from a recent overhaul and sporting distinctive apple green livery, the locomotive was making its way back from Scotland, where it hauled two trains across the world-famous Forth Bridge at the weekend.
The journeys from Edinburgh to Fife were part of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society.
Tornado had stepped in for the Gresley class A4 engine Union of South Africa on the engagements.
