A SPECIAL service is taking place in recognition of a church preschool that is closing after four decades in the town.
As previously reported in The Northern Echo, the decision was made late last year to close Elm Ridge pre-school at the end of the 2015 summer term, despite angry objections from parents and supporters.
An action group was formed to try and save the facility but the Methodist Church stood firm on its original decision that the pre-school is no longer sustainable.
A children's leavers party has been organised by parents and will take place at Elm Ridge on July 16.
The children intend to release the butterflies at the party as a symbol of change and growth.
In addition, a final leavers service will then take place on July 17 at 10am and all who have been involved or attended the preschool in the last 40 years are invited along.
