A NEW arts organisation has formed in Darlington with the aim of bringing more theatrical productions to the town.

Glint Adorn, an anagram of Darlington, is seeking to work with artists and performers from Darlington and beyond to add to the town’s arts offering.

The project is based on a ‘not for profit’ principle and the first production to come to the town thanks to the help of Glint Adorn is the award-winning travelling theatre company ‘Nicole and Martin’.

Founded in Switzerland by husband and wife team Nicole and Martin Gubler-Shranz, the company will bring its signature ‘White Tent’ theatre to the lawns of Hummersknott School in August to perform three shows based on Grimms’ Fairytales.

Glint Adorn’s founder Neil Hillier is delighted to welcome the company to Darlington and said: “This is simply one of the best shows of this type, we believe, in the world.

“It is very friendly, warm and most of all familiar to anyone that has ever been to a circus, pantomime or theatre.

“It brings with it the magic and wonder that can only happen when a travelling show comes to town.

“Performed in English the show is totally accessible, full of colour, music, drama and acrobatics.

“It provides the perfect opportunity to for families and communities to come together and share something amazing.”

The show will be arriving in the North -East as one of only two stops in the UK leg of their European tour and its visit to the town is being supported by Creative Darlington.

Hansel and Gretel will kick-start the three evenings of outdoor performances on August 6.

This will be followed over the next two nights with The Musician of Brexen and The Girl without Hands.

All performances will take place within the grounds of Hummersknott School on Edinburgh Drive and are suitable for all ages.

Tickets for the performances can be bought in advance from the Darlington Civic Theatre box office or from the performance venue, the White Tent, which opens in the school grounds an hour before each show begins.

Tickets cost £5.50 for children, £10 for adults and £24 for a family ticket admitting four people, with a minimum of two children.

Performances on August 6 and 7 start at 6.30pm, with the final performance on August 8 starting at 3pm.
