A NORTH-EAST carer has scooped the top prize in a national competition.

Helen Potts, who works for Home Instead Senior Care, in Darlington, was named dementia carer of the year at the Great British Care Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence across the social care sector and pay tribute to those who have excelled in their work.

Ms Potts said she was over the moon to win the award, which recognised her knowledge and skills in delivering the highest quality care to those living with dementia.

“It was wonderful to be acknowledged for the work I do. I enjoy making a positive impact on people’s lives,” she said.

“At the heart of everything I do is helping to improve lives of people living with dementia.”

Home Instead owner Diane Chandler added: “We are so proud of Helen - she is such a key member of our team.

“Her role is really important to Home Instead as she supports many of our clients living with dementia. Well done to Helen.”
