PUPILS at at Darlington school are celebrating sporting success after winning a major competition.

Carmel College's Year Ten football team lifted the Darlington Schools' U15s Town Cup following a series of unfortunate events.

The team took home the trophy after beating Longfield Academy 3-1 in the final of the competition, a match that left one defender nursing an injury.

The closing stages saw Carmel's defender Joshua Patchett dislocate his shoulder during a "heroic tackle" that thwarted a Longfield attack.

Casualties also included central midfielder Nick Whiston who missed the final as a result of a broken collar bone.

The match was played at the Middlesbrough training ground at Rockcliffe and featured goals from Kyle Davidson, Tom Kelly and Bradley Davies

The proud coach of the side, PE teacher Mr Gandy, said: "We have played well all season and to win the town cup is the icing on the cake.

"All three goals were taken well but it was the performance from the whole team which pleased me.

"They were a credit to their school."
