FUNDRAISERS are cooking up an evening of tantalising tastes and topical teasers to help raise money for charity.

Darlington College will host its second annual curry and quiz night in aid of Darlington and District Samaritans on Wednesday, June 3 at 6.30pm.

During the event, which last year raised in excess of £600, quiz-goers will enjoy a two course curry buffet, prepared by catering students, and a glass of wine, before knuckling down in teams to take on general knowledge and other specialist rounds to be crowned champions.

Chair of the Darlington and District Samaritans branch Liz McAllister said: “The support that we have received from Darlington College has been absolutely tremendous.

“Our organisation offers a confidential service aimed at providing support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide.

“We receive no government funding or grants and the service costs £25,000 a year to run so every penny raised is invaluable. Even though our fundraising night is about raising money and awareness the main aim of the evening is to have a lot of fun.”

The quiz will be hosted by Steve Rose, who will present a trophy to the wining team and a cash prize.

Darlington College communications manager Kath MacColl added: “The Samaritans support thousands of people every year with young people aged between 17 and 25 particularly vulnerable.

“We have 2,500 students on our site so it is very important to us to work closely with the Samaritans to ensure that our young people are aware of the help that is available to them should they need it."

Tickets, which cost £10 per person or £50 per team of six, are available from Liz McAllister on 07768 058682 or lizmcallister03@googlemail.com
