A PUB landlady is reaching out for help to learn more about her building’s heritage.

Bernice Smith, who runs The Old Vic pub, in Darlington, with her husband, is asking for anyone with photographs to come forward, as they would like to learn more of the pub’s past.

Mrs Smith said that the earliest she knows of the pub’s history is that it was called the Co-Op Social club, before it became the Post Office club, and then the Victoria Social Club.

The pub was then closed down for about two years before Mrs Smith and her husband took it over and turned it into what it is today.

Mrs Smith said: “We don’t know how far back the pub goes - we are very interested in any information that can help us learn more about our pub’s history.”

The pub’s official address is on Victoria Road, but the front entrance is on Backhouse Street.

The pub is the last remaining building on the street, so Mrs Smith is also appealing for photographs of the road.

Mrs Smith has asked that photographs and information be submitted to the Facebook page – Darlington As It Looked 1880-1980.
