BRIDES-TO-BE can find their dream dress at a fraction of the price after a charity shop opened a new boutique.

Oxfam, in Skinnergate, Darlington, has transformed its top floor into a bridal boutique, stocking dozens of donated wedding dresses, from modern gowns to vintage outfits.

As well as dresses, the shop also sells veils, shoes, hats, bridesmaid dresses and suits for adults and youngsters.

All items have been donated by Oxfam supporters, and volunteers have worked to decorate the boutique ready for its opening this weekend.

Speaking at the boutique’s opening on Saturday, manager Rachel Parry thanked those who had already donated wedding dresses.

“This is our first day and we have had quite a few people up here already,” she said.

“I think the shop will appeal to thrifty people and customers who want to make a difference as part of their big day.

“We have had a few dresses donated with their original price tag on. One was £1,200 – I wouldn’t pay that for a dress, but I would pay £200.”

The boutique is temporary and will be open throughout the summer before the shop closes later this year for a refit.

It is open from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

Donations of dresses, suits for adults and children, hats, shoes and veils are welcome.

The shop is also looking for volunteers who have experience of altering dresses.
