FLOWER club members collected donations for charity during an event to celebrate National Flower Arranging Day.

Members of Darlington Flower Club were at the Morrisons store, in North Road, on Friday (May 1).

A total of £113.40 was collected for the supermarket's nominated charity, Sue Ryder.

Club members staid staff and customers at the store were most accommodating throughout.

Darlington mayor Gerald Lee was invited to join in and gave the event his support.

It is hoped a repeat fundraiser will be carried out at the store later in the year.

Meanwhile, the club has sent a cheque for £1,150 to the children's heart unit, at the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle.

Those funds were raised during the club's 'spring fling' get-together, in March.

The club is on the lookout for new members, following a recent dip in numbers.

Anyone interested in joining can pop along to a meeting, details of which are printed in The Northern Echo ahead of time, or call Christina Steel, on 01325-374732.
