INSPECTORS have praised a primary school for its exemplary pupils and inspiring teaching.

An Ofsted report has described Darlington’s West Park Academy as good across the board.

Officials highlighted the passion and enthusiasm of the school’s principal, Catherine Thompson as well as her deputy, Sam Hirst.

They also praised the teaching staff for delivering thought-provoking lessons and allowing pupils to think critically for themselves.

The inspectors said the school’s pupils were hardworking, keen to learn and trusted their teachers.

The quality of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development was said to make a telling contribution to children’s positive, friendly and helpful attitude.

Attendance at the school is above the national average and participation rates in extra-curricular activities are high.

The Ofsted report is the school’s first since becoming an academy in 2011.

Ms Thompson said: “I’m delighted the inspectors recognised the strengths, ambitions and talents of the school, including the efforts of staff, governors, pupils and their families.

“This is a very happy school in an area of Darlington undergoing hugely exciting change.

“The feeling of positivity, which pervades the academy and reaches the community, brings a high degree of success to pupils’ learning.

“I am proud to be principal of such a wonderful community.”
