A HAIRDRESSER from Darlington is giving the Geordies a run for their money after becoming the latest addition to the Geordie Shore house.

Nathan Henry is one of two new characters to join the tenth series of the popular reality television show, which follows the cast’s drunken antics as they live and party together in Newcastle.

The 24-year-old, from Darlington, made his on-screen debut last week with fellow newbie Chloe Etherington, from Tyneside, after he was picked for the show out of more than 4,000 people who had applied.

The former Longfield Academy and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College student, who is the first bisexual cast member to enter the house, said: “I am not like anyone that has been on the show before and I think that is what the show needed, to make it more realistic.

“I don’t feel any different to anyone else. I feel like it is time that reality television programmes showed that (different sexualities).

“It is something that happens in real life and by not addressing it, it is almost like pretending that it doesn’t happen.”

Mr Henry, who was asked to apply for the show while working at Saks hair salon in Northallerton, said he has always dreamed of being famous.

“When I was about seven and my mum asked me what I wanted to be when I was older, I kept saying I will be famous for being myself,” he said.

“When they asked me to apply, I thought it was a joke. I couldn’t believe it when I got in. I had to go back in to work like nothing had happened – it was so hard."

He added: “It was daunting entering the house as I knew who they were, but none of them were expecting me.

“I was a little bit star struck. I didn’t know what to say, but then Charlotte (Crosby) told me to relax and calm down, as they have all been through it.

“At first I thought I would be able to keep up, but it is full on. You’re out all night and have to be up at 8am to film.

“You get used to it and everyone knows their limits. Going in the house initially I drank far too much. After that I learnt my lesson.”

The former events management student said his family were proud of his success on the show – especially his mum, Beverley.

“We all love it. My mum threw a little party for the first episode at my auntie’s pub – she loves Geordie Shore,” he said.

“It is weird to say she is proud of it, but I think she is proud of the fact that I am doing what I love.”

Geordie Shore is shown every Tuesday at 10pm on MTV.
