A VILLAGE cricket club is looking to recruit new players after netting about £100,000 for improvements.

Over the past ten years, Barton Cricket Club, in North Yorkshire, has undergone major improvements, including the installation of field drainage systems and upgrading the sports pavilion.

The club has also invested in new site screens, cricket covers and installed a permanent power supply to the site.

The most recent improvements include a new twin bay cricket practice facility, funded through the Richmondshire District Council’s Communities Opportunity Fund, the Rowlandson and Eggleston Fund, sponsorship from Kearney Roofing, C S Signs and Charter Self Drive, as well as funds raised by local residents.

Trevor Frankland, a spokesman for the club, said: “The grounds are unrecognisable to what they were like ten years ago.

“They are fantastic facilities. There are no facilities like these within the local area.

“For a little village we have done really well, and the way the public have pulled together to raise funds is great.

“I want to say a massive thanks to everyone that has helped over the years. The fundraising events have always been well attended.”

Mr Frankland said he hopes the new facilities, which were supplied by Exclusive Leisure Ltd, will encourage more people to take up cricket.

A practice day will be held at the club on Saturday, April 11 at 2pm, and will be open to people who would like to try the sport, meet club members and try out the new facilities.

The facilities will also be available for local clubs and villages that currently do not have their own dedicated training facilities.
