A COLOURFUL array of crosses has been created to mark the beginning of Easter celebrations at a Darlington church.
Knitted crosses of all shapes, colours and sizes are currently displayed on the railings surrounding St Matthew and St Luke’s Church, in Brinkburn Road.
The crosses were displayed ahead of Palm Sunday and will help the church’s parishioners usher in Holy Week.
They were the brainchild of church warden Peter Craig who says members of the church’s knitting group jokingly called him “all the names under the sun” as they crafted more than a hundred elaborate crosses in around six weeks.
Mr Craig said: “I asked the ladies from our knit and natter group and other members of the congregation to make the crosses.
“They look very nice, they’re all colours, shapes and sizes, some knitted and some crotchet.
“It’s an eye-catching display and this kind of thing gets people interested in the church – they’re stopping, looking and asking what’s going on.”
The crosses are the latest in a series of similar displays created to mark major occasions in the church’s calendar.
