STAFF at a North-East cinema are celebrating receiving two worthy accolades.

The Odeon cinema, in Darlington, has been named Band C cinema of the year and charity cinema of the year in the nationwide chain's in-house awards.

Cinema manager Nathan Calderwood said the recognition came as a result of a tight-knit team working hard.

He said: “We’re top in our group for attendance and guest service because we’re always trying to strive to better ourselves and offer a better experience for our guests.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be recognised and will continue to work to the highest standards possible.”

The award for charity cinema of the year came because of a dedication to fundraising, according to Mr Calderwood.

He said: “We do a lot to raise money for the NSPCC and Variety, such as allowing customers to bid on posters that they like and donating any proceeds to charity.

“It’s very important for us to give something back to the community.”

Another manager, Miranda Harding, accepted the awards on behalf of the staff at a recent ceremony.
