A YOUTH football team is campaigning for votes from the public after being nominated to win a £2,000 community prize.

Spraire Lads and Lasses have been nominated by the Darlington branch of Magnet Trade for the company's Community Champions campaign.

In total 169 charities or organisations have been nominated across the country, with a pot of £10,000 split regionally between the ten most voted for causes.

An additional £1,000 will be available for the public's overall favourite cause.

Alison Coleman, from Magnet Trade, said: “In recent years, we’ve seen an increase in our staff taking up charity and community challenges to raise money.

"So, Community Champions is our way of acknowledging the efforts of our staff and rewarding local good causes close to our trade stores.”

Spraire Lads and Lasses was founded more than 30 years ago and has 16 teams of all ages, who play at venues around Darlington.
