A LAUNCH event for a £1.4m nationwide campaign to inspire people who want to improve their rural communities was held in Darlington at the weekend.

The free event was part of the latest phase of Village SOS, a Big Lottery funded campaign that enables people to come together and make the most of where they live.

People who attended the drop-in day at Morton Park received advice and guidance on how to get their project ideas off the ground.

Workshops ran throughout the day focusing on how to get a project started, where to look for funding and how to recruit volunteers.

Visitors also got the chance to hear from people who have already launched successful community enterprises.

Village SOS community manager Chris Cowcher said “Village SOS is all about helping to keep communities alive and thriving.”

The campaign is being led by ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), with research partner Rocket Science.
