A CAMPAIGN took to Darlington's streets to remind residents not to miss their chance to claim a free boiler.

Residents are being urged to take advantage of the initiative in which Darlington Borough Council and British Gas contact selected local residents to inform them that they could be entitled to a free or subsidised gas boiler under the Warm Up North scheme (WUN).

Councillor McEwan, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, took to the streets with David Burrell, the council’s private sector housing manager and British Gas engineer John Price to promote the scheme.

Tenants and homeowners do not need to be British Gas customers to qualify for the scheme but they do need to be in receipt of certain benefits and have an inefficient gas boiler in their home – regardless of whether they own it or not.

Private landlords may also qualify if the tenant in their property meets the criteria.

Any resident who thinks they may qualify for a free or subsidised gas boiler can call WUN on 0800-316-4320.
