A SCHEME to encourage young people to enter arts journalism will return to a North-East theatre for a second time.

Theatre Cloud will allow budding reporters, aged beween 17 and 30, special access to the forthcoming production of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge when it comes to Darlington Civic Theatre in March.

The touring theatre website held a pilot scheme last year when young writers tackled all aspects of the stage adaptation of Pat Barker's Regeneration when it held its premiere at the theatre to mark the centenary of the First World War.

A View from the Bridge, which will visit Darlington between March 17 and 21, is set in 1950s New York and tells the tale of the tight-knit Italian community in their pursuit of the American Dream.

Reporters chosen to take part in the scheme will carry out a wide variety of media assignments during the week, including interview features with the cast and crew, video blogs, audience vox pops, crew diaries and backstage tour reports.

Theatre Cloud’s Young Reporters Scheme is approved as part of the Arts Council-funded national Arts Award.

To apply for scheme consideration, young people should write no more than 250 words about why they would like to be a Theatre Cloud young reporter, plus one story idea around A View From The Bridge, along with their name, age, address and contact details to reporters@theatrecloud.com

The scheme is unpaid but a contribution towards expenses will be made. The deadline for applications is Thursday, March 5.
