TALENTED cross-country runners from a North-East school will represent the region at an upcoming competition.

Students from Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, competed against more than 200 runners at the recent Durham Schools Cross Country Championship, in Gateshead.

George Barber, 12, won the year 7 race and Cameron Stainsby, 15, finished first in an event for older students.

The year 7 boys team won their category, while the combined year 10 and 11 team also came out on top.

They will go on to represent the region at the Northern Schools Cross Country Championships next month.

PE teacher Alasdair Tatham said: “As a PE department were delighted with the boys’ achievements this year and pleased with how they have shown great commitment to succeed at every level of competition.

“They boys are now looking forward to competing in the coming weeks in the Northern Schools event to be held in Manchester.”
