SHOPWORKERS transformed into their superhero alter egos to launch an annual fundraising mission.

Batman, Superwoman and Spiderman were just some of the superheroes behind the tills at TK Maxx, in Darlington, today (Friday, January 30) as the store launched its annual Comic Relief fundraising initiative.

The firm, which has clothing stores worldwide, has so far raised more than £13.4m for the cause, and staff in Darlington hope to raise as much as they can over the next six weeks.

The store has planned a number of themed fundraising days, including a danceathon and fancy dress days, and staff are also taking part in a sponsored dip in Redcar and assault course in Richmond.

Money raised through sales of specially designed Red Nose T Shirts will also go to the charity.

Assistant manager Lisa Muldrew said: “We are going to have raffles and prize draws, and have also got donations on the tills which have been really successful this week.

"We want to raise as much money as we can. Everyone is really getting behind it."
