IN the 1960s, the family of an unmarried woman sent her away to have the baby she never saw again.

More than 50 years later, the woman’s son is searching for the brother he grew up knowing nothing about.

Heather Wilson (nee Glendimming) was a young woman living in North Shields when she fell pregnant in 1963.

As was often the case with unmarried women, Miss Glendimming was sent away by her family and gave birth to her son in Darlington before returning home without him.

In later years she married and had a son, Christopher, who grew up knowing nothing of his older brother.

She died in the 1970s, having kept her secret from her son who believed he was an only child until the full story unravelled following a family argument last year.

With the help of his wife, Laura, Christopher Wilson, 45, is now trying to track down his long-lost sibling.

The pair – from North Shields – managed to discover that the baby was originally named Paul Glendimming and was born at Darlington’s Greenbank Maternity Hospital on February 17, 1964.

Mr and Mrs Wilson are struggling to find more information and are going public with their search in the hope of being reunited with their family member, apparently named Timothy by his adoptive family.

Mrs Wilson said: “My husband was brought up by his father and step-mother as his mam passed away when he was just nine.

“He wants his brother to know that if he had known earlier, he would have looked for him and he would love to meet him.

“We don’t know if he knows the story behind his adoption but we know he was given the name Timothy.”
