STAFF at a Darlington primary school have passed a deaf awareness course with flying colours.

Teachers and support staff at St Augustine's Primary School, in Beechwood Avenue, completed the ten-week course which was held after school and hosted by JB Training.

The course aimed to increase awareness and understanding of the issues faced by deaf children, as well as increasing communication skills.

Course teacher Jacqueline Barnes-Jones, who is deaf herself, said: “It was a pleasure to teach the course to such a motivated group of learners, who it was obvious to see already provide a wonderful service to their pupils, to see them completing the course with an even broader mind and more skills than they arrived with is very fulfilling."

Head of school, Martina McCollom added: "We are delighted to have found such high quality training to extend the skills and understanding of our staff which then benefits the children in our care."
