SOME of the North-East’s top chefs kept their cool in the kitchen as they battled it out to be crowned the best in the region.

Darlington College hosted the Great North Menu Challenge today (Thursday, October 30) which saw 11 chefs competing for their chance to serve their dishes at the annual North-East Hoteliers Association dinner in February.

Sous chefs and chef de parties from hotels across the region, including Seaham Hall and Rockliffe Hall, created dishes inspired by the North-East, from a duo of Northumberland hogget, ‘Thistleyhaugh Farm’ guinea fowl confit leg to a Geordie cocktail with panna cotta.

Kate Roe, Principal of Darlington College, said the college was proud to host the competition.

She said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase our fantastic facilities and work with our partners in the catering industry.

“Many of these top chefs will have started their career through colleges such as ours and this will be a great learning experience for our students.”
