RESIDENTS, businesses and community groups are invited to attend the final public event where they can have their say on the vision of railway heritage in Darlington.

The drop-in event will take place on Thursday (October 23), at Crown Street Library between 10am and 2pm.

Darlington’s Heritage Campus will see the creation of a visitor experience in the north of the town that will celebrate Darlington’s rich railway heritage and the part it played in the history of passenger rail travel.

The Heritage Campus site includes the Head of Steam Museum and the buildings around it.

Residents have already shared their views at a range of events including a family fun day at the museum and the Festival of Thrift.

Darlington Borough Council is keen to hear more views and ideas on how the area could be shaped and developed in the future. These will then feed into the Vision and Action Plan. The closing date for comments is Friday, October 31.

Councillor Chris McEwan, the council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “Many thanks to those who have already shared their ideas and views on the future of railway heritage in Darlington.

"The Heritage Campus is a hugely exciting concept and one that I am sure will be embraced and supported by the whole community.

"It is hoped that, in time, the Heritage Campus will prove to be a fantastic boost for the town and its economy.”

Councillor Nick Wallis, cabinet member for leisure and local environment, added: “There is still time to get on board and share your vision for what could be created.

"We want to make sure that Darlington retains its place in railway history and heritage by creating a visitor experience that present and future generations will want to visit and enjoy.

“This is a brilliant opportunity for everyone to get involved in preserving, developing and celebrating this heritage.”
