STUDENTS and staff at a Darlington primary school are celebrating, after it was rated 'good' by Ofsted inspectors.

Skerne Park Primary Academy was inspected last month.

The school was judged to be 'good' in all four inspection categories and the inspectors recognised aspects of the school which included 'significant improvements in the achievement of pupils'.

The report also highlighted that 'parents and pupils have positive attitudes towards school' and that pupils’ attitudes to learning are positive.

Headteacher Kate Chisholm and the leadership team have worked closely to develop the organisation, staffing, management and leadership of Skerne Park and to raise standards in the school.

Among other recent improvements, the 406-pupil school implemented a ‘back to basics’ style of teaching and it also has a new school uniform and logo. Inspectors also recognised the support of the Trust.

Marjory Knowles, chairwoman of governors, said: “Getting a good rating is a fantastic achievement for everyone including staff, pupils, parents and the governing body.

"Every pupil attending Skerne Park Academy is assured of a good educational start and a continuing good school experience to enable them to achieve their full potential.”

Last year, the school announced a partnership with Hummersknott Academy Trust.
