A TEAM of young dancers from Darlington took to the stage at Disneyland Paris to wow judges in an international competition.

The 11 girls, aged from eight to 13-years-old, are members of the Born to Dance school on Northgate and travelled to Paris with their families to take part in the global competition.

They were judged on a range of dance styles, including ballet, tap and modern and the three-day competition was held on the same stage used by performers of the Circe du Soleil.

The Darlington youngsters competed against dancers from countries including Russia and Greece and they did the North-East proud by coming away with 38 medals and five trophies between them.

Sue Henderson, principal of Born to Dance, said she was delighted with their achievement.

She said: “They had worked so hard I hoped that they would come back with something, but they really exceeded what we expected of them.

“Myself and all the parents are so proud of them.”

It was the second time members of the dance school had performed at the competition and Ms Henderson says she hopes they can keep returning on alternate years.
