ACTOR, writer and novelist Mark Gatiss will return to the North-East this winter for an ‘in conversation’ event for charity.

Mr Gatiss, who has written and acted in Doctor Who, Sherlock and The League of Gentleman and starred in Game of Thrones, will be chatting to an audience at Carmel College on December 5.

Presented by the mayor of Darlington Gerald Lee, in aid of the mayor’s charities and in association with Teesside University, tickets are now on sale for £12.50 available from Darlington Civic Theatre box office.

A former pupil of Heighington Church of England Primary School and Woodham Comprehensive in Newton Aycliffe, Mr Gatiss shot to fame with cult series The League of Gentlemen which first aired in 1999.

Cllr Lee said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark back to his home region and that he has agreed to what will be a very special event.

"Mark has been involved in some of the most popular television shows of our time and this is a fantastic opportunity to hear him talk about his work and ask him questions as well as raise some money for charity.”

Northern Echo editor Peter Barron will be hosting the event and the proceeds will go to Butterwick Hospice children’s unit and Phoenix House recovery unit.
