THE director of a festival that attracted tens of thousands of people to a North-East town has called on the public to share their ideas for next year's event.

More than 40,000 people visited the Festival of Thrift, held at Lingfield Point, in Darlington, on Saturday and Sunday.

Festival director Stella Hall took time to reflect on the success of the event, which celebrates thrifty living, upcycling and recycling.

Asked about the prospects of Festival of Thrift returning in 2015, she said: "I need to know that Darlington wants it again, so I would appeal for people to get in touch and let us know what they thought.

"We will be collecting information and feedback, compiling statistics to make the case for next year."

Ms Hall added: "We held a welcome reception for for partners, to see if they would like to stay on and it looks as if those who have been with are happy to stay.

"It costs money to put the festival on – to pay the stewards, to invite the artists and performers – so we are looking for other businesses to get involved.

"We are particularly keen to get town centre businesses involved for next year, to extend the fun."
