A CHARITY fun run has gained the support of a rugby club, just days before the run is due to take place.

The 5K fun run – which has been named the Nun Run as runners are encouraged to dress up as nuns to add to the fun – has been organised as a joint event between the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and Darlington Operatic Society.

A mass of holy runners will join together on Sunday, October 5, at 11am to run, walk or crawl the picturesque 5k course in Darlington's South Park.

Darlington Mowden Park rugby club is the latest organisation to throw its support behind the fun run.

Julian Cound, marketing manager for the operatic society, said: "This event is a chance for families to join together and have a lot of fun.

"This will be a fantastic event, seeing a mass of nuns running around South Park on a Sunday morning – it should raise a few eyebrows, but it’s all for a great cause.

“Securing the support of Darlington Mowden Park has given us a great boost and we’re hoping to get senior players involved and a special guest to start the race.”

GNAAS and the operatic society are on the look-out for fun-loving volunteers to enter into the spirit of the event and come dressed as a nun – or a bishop, a monk, or whatever takes your fancy, to help make it a run to remember.

Runners can pre-book their place via the GNAAS website or turn up on the day and register.

The entry fee is £10, which all goes to the GNAAS.
