VOLUNTEERS are being recruited to help secure the welfare of vulnerable people in Darlington.

The town’s safeguarding board is looking for lay members to challenge the work they do, as well as encourage transparency and community involvement.

They will act as full members of the safeguarding board and will be able to offer feedback and concerns about any issues raised at meetings.

No experience is necessary, apart from an interest in the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Odette Robson, business manager at the safeguarding board said: “The lay member plays a very important role, being the intermediary between the safeguarding board and the people of Darlington.

“It’s a very fulfilling role and we’d love as many people as possible to take up the challenge.”

Applicants will be interviewed and will need to undergo an enhanced disclosure and barring service check and sign a confidentiality agreement.

The role is a voluntary one, although expenses will be reimbursed if required.
