FITNESS class members helped set a world record – and warmed up for another record-breaking attempt at the same time.

Almost 100 people took part in a Glow keep-fit class at Darlington Mowden Park rugby club and joined with 35 other classes across England and Scotland.

It was part of a successful attempt to set a Guinness world record for the largest high-intensity interval training class.

Members of Mowden's first-team squad took part and also led the class in a rendition of the haka, the Maori war dance made famous by the New Zealand rugby team.

The All Blacks will train at Mowden during the rugby World Cup next year, with efforts under way in Darlington for a world record attempt for the world's biggest haka.

Dianne Darville, who runs the classes at the rugby club, as well as other locations around the region, said the atmosphere at Thursday's (September 11) successful world record attempt was 'electric'.

Almost £300 was raised for the Pendragon Community Trust, in Northallerton, which aims to support people with physical, mental and emotional difficulties.
