THE Bank Holiday weekend marks the last chance for garden enthusiasts to enter the revived Darlington in Bloom contest.

Entries for the competition close on Tuesday (August 26), after which time voting will continue in earnest.

The competition had been scrapped after a lack of entries, but The Northern Echo teamed up with organisers Darlington Borough Council to give gardeners another chance.

Horticulturalists can still enter their efforts in the best yard, best individual garden, best community garden, best business and best alternative garden.

Among the businesses to have entered is hair and beauty salon Twelve Central, in Middleton St George.

Owner Alan Proctor likes to keep the premises looking spruce with flowers from Manor Garden, in nearby Eryholme.

A council spokeswoman said the number of entries has been encouraging, with a £25 garden centre voucher on offer to the winners in each category.

Entries will be uploaded to the council and Northern Echo social media channels, with those gaining the most 'likes' by the time voting closes, on September 10, being declared the winner.

The winners will be announced on Monday, September 15.

To enter, send a photograph of your entry to communications@darlington.gov.uk by Tuesday.
