A DAY of physical activities for children inspired by popular Disney films will visit Darlington this week.

The Disney 10 Minute Shake Up Roadshow, part of the Change4Life initiative, will join the Darlington by the Sea event in the Market Square on Thursday (July 24) between 11am and 4pm.

The roadshow aims to encourage families to stay active over the summer holidays and how to break down exercise into fun ten minute chunks.

Families can try activities inspired by Disney films, including lasso throwing from Toy Story and a game of musical statutes based on Frozen.

The Change4Life campaign aims to get children to complete at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day and hopes that breaking it down into smaller activities will help people reach the target.

A free family pack full of activity ideas, including a stopwatch, 28 activity cards and a Disney-themed wall chart and stickers is available online at the change4life website.

Miriam Davidson, Darlington Borough Council’s director for public health, said: “Children are recommended to take part in 60 minutes of activity a day.

“Evidence clearly demonstrates the benefits of children achieving ten minutes or more moderate to vigorous activity, several times a day. This is enough to improve fitness and health overall.

“The campaign aims to help children who currently do not achieve the recommended 60 minutes of exercise per day and children who do less than 30 minutes per day, by helping to break it down into 10 minute bursts of fun.”
