A COMMUNITY order imposed on a woman who stole hundreds of pounds from her godmother has been revoked after she showed she is committed to living an "offence free life".

Kayleigh Watson, of Thompson Street West, Darlington, was given a 12-month community order on August 27 this year after she admitted stealing £1,693 from her godmother.

Darlington Magistrates’ Court heard at the time that Watson was entrusted with her godmother’s bank card as she could not afford to pay for her electricity.

The 25-year-old, who had no previous convictions, was allowed to take between £10 and £20 on specific days, but instead began to take more money without her godmother realising.

She was given a 12-month community order and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.

However, magistrates today (Thursday, November 28) agreed to revoke the order as Watson had already completed her unpaid work and has continued to volunteer at King’s Church, in Darlington.

She has also paid her outstanding court fines and wants to join the Army next year.

Brenda Robertson, of the probation service said: “She has displayed a very positive attitude and showed she is motivated to show she will lead an offence free life.”

Revoking the order, chairman of the bench, Colling Morris said: “It is very refreshing to hear that somebody has really knuckled down and has worked through the order.”
