A WOMAN who advertised a swingers’ club in a quiet dales town has ditched her plans and moved out of the area, The Northern Echo can reveal.

The woman, who calls herself Estelle Pollard, has left Grey Towers, in Wolsingham, County Durham, after days of speculation about what was planned for the rented house.

Her “Swinging In The Manor” website, which has now been shut down, caused outrage last week.

It explained that couples and singles using the club, which advertised services including a fully stocked dungeon and outdoor hot tub, would be charged a £25 membership fee.

It did not disclose a location, but The Northern Echo understands that Ms Pollard was living at the home in Thistlewood Lane.

The landlord, who has asked not to be named, described the whole incident as a “storm in a teacup”.

He said he was baffled by the website, insisting that the dungeon and hot tub did not exist.

He said: “The house is empty. I have had the neighbours up and I have shown them and there are some council enforcement officers coming up to have a look.

“There is no dungeon and there never has been a hot tub.”

He said his tenant had moved out as planned because the pair had agreed a shortterm lease.

He said: “She was supposed to go and she left.”

He added that rumours had spread like wildfire in the community and that he wanted to make the situation clear.

He said: “It is a bad place for gossip, Wolsingham. I can’t understand it, to be quite truthful, it is a bit of a shock.”

Ms Pollard had said that no one had signed up for the club and that she was merely testing the water to see if there was any interest.

Local county councillor John Shuttleworth said a swingers’ club was inappropriate for the town, and added: “This is a relief to the residents of Wolsingham.”

Durham County Council said officers have concluded an investigation and do not plan to take any action.
