INSPECTORS have praised excellent teaching and learning at a south Durham primary school.
Stanley Crook Primary was rated excellent by a team from Ofsted, who said that staff put pupils first.
Children make outstanding progress in speech and language development and are articulate and confident by the time they left.
The school was also found to have a good capacity to achieve further improvement.
Reporting inspector Lesley Clark said: "Pupils have ample opportunities to use their initiative. They decide their own rules, rewards and sanctions.
"‘Try our best, tell the truth, look after each other and the community’ is pupils’ personal code of conduct.
"This is why their behaviour and contribution to the community are outstanding.
"Pupils with special educational needs and disabilities make exceptional progress because their needs are identified swiftly and so they get specialist help quickly.
"Their performance is much better than that of similar groups of pupils nationally."
The report also praised the after school clubs and family learning activities as well as its efforts to teach children the importance of healthy eating and exercise."
Headteacher Shirley Oswald said: "Our outstanding Ofsted report is a result of teamwork, children, staff, parents, governors and Durham County Council working together for the good of every child."
