Police hunt thieves who used knife threats

9:10am Friday 3rd September 2010

POLICE are looking for three men who stole a motorbike after threatening two teenagers with a Stanley knife blade.

The 17-year-olds had taken the red and white Honda CR85 motorbike to Castleside Quarry, near Consett, County Durham, at about 3pm on Sunday.

They were approached by three young men, who were in a rusty old white van, thought to be a Ford Transit.

The owner of the bike reluctantly agreed to allow one of them ride it. After giving it back, the youths drove off in the van.

Shortly afterwards, two of them returned and ordered the younger boy to hand the bike over at knife point.

When the bike owner and his friend got back to the Ford Fiesta they had travelled to the quarry in they found it broken into, the battery removed and a wallet stolen.

The young car owner said: “I thought about jumping on them at the time, but it is not worth getting stabbed for. I just hope that the police catch them.”

The robbers were white and aged 19 to 23.

Inspector Dave Turner said: “This is an unusual crime for us, but it is one too many.

“Someone must know something about who was involved and I would ask them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0345-60-60-365.
