A TEENAGER from the North-East is hoping to carve out a career in the West End.

David Hopper, 16, from Pleasant View, Medomsley, Consett, County Durham, has won a place on a two year performing arts course.

The former pupil of St Bedes, in Lanchester, has been involved in amateur dramatics since he was seven.

Now he hopes the course, at Sage Academy of Performing Arts, in Byker, Newcastle, will pave the way to a musical stage career in the capital.

He said: “When I sing and act on stage with someone else and reach a high note then hear the applause of the audience it is the greatest feeling in the world. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.”

David has performed in a number of shows, including Beauty and the Beast, Fame and Oliver, done stand up comedy and played in a band.

He is planning an evening of cabaret entertainment to help fund the £10,000 course and would like to hear from businesses and individuals who want to donate money or goods for auction.

The event is being organised by his sister, Katie, who can be contacted on 07903-316009.

Many Sage Academy students gain professional performance experience and past contracts include Mamma Mia The Movie, Girls Aloud Party, Billy Elliot the Musical, at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London, the Ministry of Sound’s television advert and album cover and The Paul O’Grady Show.
