A PROJECT to record the memories of a bygone age in north Durham is being launched in the New Year.
Mad Alice Theatre Company, based in Blackhill, Consett, which traditionally works with youngsters, is hoping to encourage older people to get involved.
It is a free digital art and writing project for the over 60’s living in the former district of Derwentside and will be delivered with Leisureworks.
Actress and founder of Mad Alice Theatre Company, Michelle Parker said: “The participants will work with a professional actor and digital artist and will be encouraged to share stories and photographs of life in the 60’s to create a memory book.
“A whole range of topics will be covered including school days, work and fashion. A great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, be creative and to have fun.”
Held in The Education Centre in Blackhill and Consett Heritage Park every Tuesday 1pm to 4pm, it will last for six weeks and start Tuesday January 19.
Mad Alice has an ongoing relationship with schools in the region and put on open-air theatre productions.
Ms Parker added: “Bing part of a team with a shared vision will result in firm friendships being established and it will make people feel an even greater connection to this community.
“The memory book will also be a great resource for the younger generation of our community to access.”
There are limited places so people need to book by calling 01207-509823 or 0788-079-2597.
