Naturists make a splash in Weardale

Storm clouds didn’t stop north-east naturists taking part in The Great British Skinny Dip last Sunday (17th July 2011) in Stanhope.

Three Rivers Outdoor Club hired Weardale Outdoor Pool for the north-east venue in the national event.

The heavens opened and for a short time rain drops bounced off the pool.

Many swimmers took advantage of warmth and shelter in the newly-installed sauna, a few brave souls stayed in the pool.

Three Rivers naturists don’t just skinny-dip once a year though! The club hires a pool and Turkish Bath in Newcastle about once a month, they usually take a break over summer months, but the opportunity to use one of the only heated outdoor pools in County Durham was too good to miss.

“It’s quite unusual to find a public outdoor pool these days but it’s kept very warm so it’s quite comfortable, and the log-fired sauna is great for taking a break.” according to Rob, the organiser.
